Why Is My Home Not Selling? Part 5: Why Communication Is the Cornerstone of a Successful Sale

Why Is My Home Not Selling? Part 5: Why Communication Is the Cornerstone of a Successful Sale

If you’ve ever wondered why your home isn’t selling, one of the most overlooked reasons has nothing to do with your price, your condition, or your timing. It’s whether your agent is actually communicating with you.

What “Staying the Course” Actually Looks Like

When a listing goes through a slow stretch, my job isn’t to just wait it out quietly. I’m continually working the marketing plan behind the scenes, testing different MLS descriptions, rearranging photo order to see what pulls buyers in first. For a townhome, that might mean leading with an updated kitchen or the living room instead of an exterior shot. Timing and the market both play a role too, since some properties and price ranges simply have more active buyers than others at a given moment. Staying the course doesn’t mean doing nothing. It means actively adjusting while keeping my seller in the loop about what’s changing and why.

The Frustrated Seller I Hear From Constantly

I get calls all the time from sellers who are frustrated their home isn’t getting activity or isn’t selling, and are looking for a new agent. When I ask what’s actually bothering them most, the answer is almost never just “the house hasn’t sold.” It’s lack of communication from their current agent. I’ve talked to sellers who hadn’t heard from their agent in two, sometimes three weeks. That silence is often more damaging to a seller’s confidence than the slow market itself.

My Actual Communication Cadence

Here’s what you can actually expect from me: you will hear from me every single week, no matter what, even if there’s nothing new to report. But realistically, I’m reaching out two to four times a week with real touch points, feedback from a showing, a photo update, a description change, a reverse prospecting update, a new video, a social media push, whatever’s actually happening on your listing that week. You should never be left wondering what’s going on with your own home.

What You Should Expect From a Great Listing Agent

Regular, honest updates. Real explanations during slow periods, not silence. Data you can actually see and understand. And an agent who treats your listing like an active, evolving strategy, not something they set up once and check on occasionally.

As the #1 rated real estate agent on Google for Lakeville, MN, this kind of consistent communication is exactly the standard I hold myself to on every listing.
